Crystalens® is an FDA approved accommodating intraocular lens and is the first presbyopia correcting IOL introduced into the USA market. Presbyopia occurs when the natural lens in the eye loses its ability to focus or accommodate from distance to near, a condition developing in most people after the age of 40.

Crystalens® is modeled after the human eye (accommodates similar to your eye's natural lens).  Thus it is unlike a standard fixed intraocular lens.  Crystalens® can improve your quality of life by reducing the need for glasses for driving, computer work and reading.   Clinical trials have shown that 88.4% of patients implanted with a Crystalens® could see better at all distances than patients implanted with a standard fixed focus implant.  More than 100,000 Crystalens® implants have been implanted worldwide.

Medicare and other health insurance companies cover the cost of the basic cataract surgical procedure, but the cost of the elective upgrade to the premium Crystalens® to correct presbyopia is the responsibility of the patient.
